It may be a cliche, but as we age the expression use it or lose it stills rings true. On today's Health Show, we’ll highlight the importance of exercise in old age. We’ll also report on a conference on Native American elder health...and hear why a man’s experience with his mother’s assisted living home inspired him to write a book.

ELDER MENTAL HEALTH 1 - Use It Or Lose It!
For creatures who spend an awful lot of time and money trying to ward off death, we seem to have a pretty bad attitude about growing old. Many of us believe that as we age we will inevitably become frail, tethered to walkers or bound to wheel chairs...probably in a state of despair or depression. But new research reveals chronically sedentary elders, even frail ones, who begin to exercise will not only gain certain mobility, but their depression may lift. This year The Health Show’s Jacqueline Froelich will be taking a 5 part look at elder mental health. Here is her first report.

In his new book “Assisted Living for Our Parents: A Son’s Journey”, he writes about the experience of moving his mother into an assisted living facility. Bob Barrett asked Mr Baum if it is fair for aging parents to expect their children to care for them?
