Whether it is a threat from Mad Cow Disease, E.coli bacteria, genetically modified ingredients or just a desire to buy local, many North Americans have become very aware of their daily nourishment and questions where their food really comes from. On this week's Health Show, we’ll hear about the local food movement and find out how much work it takes to have a local diet. Then, since it’s that time of year when many people dig out their rods and reels, fire up the boat and go fishing...we’ll once again address the issue of fish: healthy food or chemical stew?

LOCAVORES - Who Are They And Why Are They So Tired?
Eating grapes and green beans in winter isn't all that novel. We're used to buying whatever we feel like all year round. But some people are rejecting what's convenient. They're going on a diet that means they can't always get what they need from the supermarket. Rebecca Williams explains.

PLENTY of Local Food
In this week's lead story about Locavores, Rebecca Williams spoke to Alisa Smith and JB MacKinnon, a Vancouver couple who decided that they would address the local food issue in a simple yet revolutionary way: beginning in spring 2005 they would attempt to eat only food grown within a 100-mile radius of their home for an entire year. That year produced an interesting diet...and enough stories for a book. That book is called “Plenty: One Man, One Woman and a Raucous Year of Eating Locally.” The Health Show’s Joe Donahue spoke with Alisa and J-B about how the project came about.

Good Fish / Bad Fish
Fish advisories are numerous...and confusing. Their guidelines change depending on your gender and age, and on the type of fish you're eating. Kyle Norris boils down some of the information in advisories and comes up with a few things to think about when you eat fish.
