The mesothelium is a membrane that covers and protects most of the internal organs of the body. It’s not something you hear about every day...but I’ll bet you’ve heard about the cancer that originates there: Mesothelioma. On this week’s Health Show, we’ll take a look at this relatively rare and deadly disease. We’ll also find out why research says many women who smoke don’t even try to quit. MESOTHELIOMA: RARE BUT DEADLY
Most people are aware of the asbestos lawsuits that began in the late 60s and continue to this day. Many people understand that contact with asbestos can lead to cancer... but not as many know what type of cancer or that a very long period of time can pass after that contact before the cancer - Mesothelioma - can suddenly arrive. The Health Show’s Jim Horne spoke with one of the nation’s leading authorities on Mesothelioma, Dr Hedy Lee Kindler of the University of Chicago.

I'd Rather Die Of Lung Cancer Than Be Fat!
Of course, the disease responsible for the most cancer deaths annually is still lung cancer...and the main cause of lung cancer is still smoking. Over the years the face of smoking related cancer is becoming a female face. Many women would like to quit smoking, but research from the University of Michigan suggests they fear the weight gain that often accompanies smoking cessation. Here’s Sarah Laduke with more.
