If there’s one thing consumers have in the United States it’s information. Whether you’re shopping for homes or cars or stereo equipment...a quick internet search will get you pages upon pages of information to make an informed decision. But what about health care...specifically hospitals? On today’s Health Show, we’ll hear about a new site that helps you compare hospitals by quality and cost. We’ll also hear about a study that found out fewer and fewer of us are suffering from “Can’t Remember Stuff”...and another study about a much more deadly outbreak: the plague of the 14th century.

A Plague On All Your Houses
During a four year period in the 14th century, 75 million people, including almost half the population of Europe were killed by The Plague. It remains one of the deadliest epidemics in human history. Historians long believed that the so-called “black death” was so deadly that it killed anyone it touched, but research published recently in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences is challenging that notion. And this information may also impact how we consider potential new epidemics, such as the avian flu. The Health Show’s Jim Horne spoke with one of the study’s authors, Dr Sharon DeWitte...a biological anthropologist at the State University of New York at Albany.
