Inflammatory Bowel Disease. Just saying the name has probably evoked a collective “eww” from half the people listening to this. But it’s a condition that needs to be talked about, especially by women who are trying to get pregnant. On this week’s Health Show, we’ll see if IBD goes well with pregnancy. We’ll also take a closer look at an eye opening study that was recently released that revealed almost one in four teenage girls have a sexually transmitted infection.

HAVING I.B.D. FOR TWO
Inflammatory Bowel Disease is an umbrella term for a number of conditions that affect primarily the large intestine...and less often the small intestine. Pregnancy, on the other hand, is a condition that affects a woman’s entire body...including the large and small intestine. Here to talk about what happens when a woman has both conditions at the same time is Dr. Uma Mahadevan -Velayos, a gastroenterologist and associate professor of medicine at the University of California San Francisco. Dr. Nina Sax asked Dr. Mahadevan-Velayos to explain what exactly we're talking about when we say Inflammatory Bowel Disease.

Teenage Girls & STDs - A Shocking Report
In Mid-March, the U-S Center for Disease Control and Prevention released its first-of-a kind study of sexually transmitted disease rates among young women. The results were, to some, shocking: girls today are as sexually active as boys...and a shocking high number of girls aged 14 to 19 has an STD. The Health Show’s Dave Lucus reports from Albany, NY.
