You may or may not have noticed, but the economy has taken a bit of a tumble lately. Okay, so this isn’t exactly Marketplace...but with more people losing their jobs and more employers cutting back on benefits...a whole lot of Americans are in the market for individual health insurance plans. As you might expect, this has led to some serious problems. On this week’s Health Show, a Consumer’s Union health editor will try to help you avoid what she calls junk insurance policies. We’ll also get a detailed picture of post traumatic stress disorder from a Vietnam vet and his wife...and find out why Italians are so touchy.

JUNK HEALTH INSURANCE?
Since the beginning of the current recession, an estimated 4 million Americans have lost their employers provided health insurance...and 14 thousand more become uninsured each day. This means many middle class, middle aged Americans are shopping for their own coverage, probably for the first time. This is not what you would call a consumer friendly marketplace. An investigation in the May issue of Consumer Reports magazine reveals some of the hazards facing these new customers. Here to talk about what the investigation turned up is Nancy Metcalf, a health editor at Consumer Reports.

A Vet, His Wife & P-T-S-D
In mid-April, the Wyoming National Guard mobilized a thousand of its troops...the largest deployment in state history. Leaders of the Guard are putting more emphasis on their soldiers' mental health than ever before. Addie Goss profiles the authors of a book that's making the rounds among Wyoming National Guard commanders. It's called "Tears of a Warrior," and it was written by a Wyoming native and his wife.

Touchy Italians
When it comes to the five senses, you’ve got sight, hearing, smell, taste...and then there’s touch. Poor touch always seems like an after thought here in the US. But as Radio Netherlands’ Nancy Greenleese found out after she moved to Italy, Italians can be pretty touchy.
