The term “power couple” could have been invented for Ben Bradlee and Sally Quinn. The pair have been mainstays on Washington DC scene for years. But there’s another member of that family...one who has received a lot of attention away from the limelight. On this week’s Health Show...we’ll meet the couple’s son Quinn Bradlee, who has spent years overcoming physical and learning disabilities in the shadow of world famous parents. We’ll also hear about Dioxin, the chemical pollutant that many cancer awareness groups call public enemy number one in the fight against cancer. And we’ll find out about the dangers of heavy snoring...apart from, you know, getting kicked out of bed in the middle of the night.

THE BRADLEE BUNCH
Born with a hole in his heart that required invasive surgery when he was only three months old, Quinn Bradlee suffered from a battery of illnesses such as seizures, migraines and fevers from an early age. But it wasn’t until he was 14 that Bradlee was correctly diagnosed with Velo-Cardio-Facial Syndrome, a widespread, little-understood disorder that can cause a wide range of ailments from cleft palette to learning disabilities. About 10 percent of the US population is affected by a learning disability, but few of us understand what being learning disabled is really like. In his new book, A Different Life: Growing Up Learning Disabled and Other Adventures, Quinn Bradlee tells his own inspirational story of growing up as an LD kid...and of doing so as the child of larger-than-life parents: long-time Washington Post executive editor Ben Bradlee and best-selling author Sally Quinn. They all spoke with The Health Show’s Joe Donahue.
