I don’t know how things look in your back yard, but right here the weather outside is, indeed, frightful. But, no biggie, we’re not going anywhere. That hasn’t always been the case this year, however. On this week’s Health Show, we’re going to look back at some of our road trips in 2009. We’ll hear about a center for traumatic brain injury patients in the Catskills that, among other things, uses art and music to reach and help heal injured minds. And we’ll sit in on an emergency room training session in Seattle, where an amazing piece of technology is helping doctors prepare for the worst...and looks really cute doing it.

ROAD TRIPS: The Northeast Center For Special Care
It happens in the blink of an eye. A wrong step and a fall. A drunk driver and a collision. A traumatic brain injury is almost always something that no one can see coming. Traumatic Brain Injury or TBI occurs when a sudden trauma causes damage to the brain. The symptoms can be mild, moderate or severe, depending on the extent of the damage to the brain. A person with a mild TBI may experience a loss of consciousness for a few seconds or minutes, have a headache, act confused or experience lightheadedness, blurred vision or tired eyes. Bob Barrett recently toured the Northeast Center for Special Care in Lake Katrine, New York.

This Is Only A Test
When an airline pilot goes through training, he sits in a flight simulator...all of the stress but none of the danger. Emergency room teams...same deal. Bob Barrett reports on an emergency resuscitation drill on a 3 month old at Seattle Children’s Hospital and its patient, the robotic “SimBaby”.
