If you’ve ever had heart surgery, I’m gonna go out on a limb here and guess that it was done by a male surgeon. There are just a handful of female cardiothroacic surgeons in the world. On this week’s Health Show, we’ll talk to one and find out about her career...and her unique understanding of women’s heart issues. If you’re looking for an exclusive club in the medical world, try female heart surgeons. Only a handful of cardiothoracic surgeons in the world are women. One of them is Dr. Kathy Magliato. Dr. Magliato is an attending cardiothoracic surgeon at Torrance Memorial Medical Center in Torrance, California and director of women’s cardiac services at St. John’s Health Center in Santa Monica, California Her new book is called “Healing Hearts - A Memoir Of A Female Heart Surgeon”.
